Advantages and Disadvantages of Artificial Intelligence

Even though artificial intelligence may have positive outcomes, why create it if it has the possibility of being as destructive as some scientists predict?  Some scientists firmly believe that these "creatures" would not be as malicious towards humans as humans are towards animals.  Is this a risk worth taking?  According to scientist Hubert Dreyfus, it is not worth considering the negative implications because there is only a remote possibility that artificial intelligence will be dangerous.

Artificial Intelligence in education

For decades, science fiction authors, futurists, and movie makers alike have been predicting the amazing (and sometimes catastrophic) changes that will arise with the advent of widespread artificial intelligence. So far, AI hasn’t made any such crazy waves, and in many ways has quietly become ubiquitous in numerous aspects of our daily lives. From the intelligent sensors that help us take perfect pictures, to the automatic parking features in cars, to the sometimes frustrating personal assistants in smartphones, artificial intelligence of one kind of another is all around us, all the time.

Aritificial Intelligence (AI) in gaming

In video gamesartificial intelligence is used to produce the illusion of intelligence in the behavior of non-player characters (NPCs). The techniques used typically draw upon existing methods from the field of artificial intelligence (AI). However, the term game AI is often used to refer to a broad set of algorithms that also include techniques from control theoryroboticscomputer graphics and computer science in general.
Since game AI is centered on appearance of intelligence and good gameplay, its approach is very different from that of traditional AI;workarounds and cheats are acceptable and, in many cases, the computer abilities must be toned down to give human players a sense of fairness. This, for example, is true in first-person shooter games, where NPCs' otherwise perfect aiming would be beyond human skill

Global Positioning System (GPS)

The Global Positioning System (GPS) was established in 1993, when the last of 24 satellites was launched into orbit. A GPS receiver uses information from at least three of these satellites to triangulate its latitude, longitude and often elevation to identify the receiver's location anywhere in the world.

Latitude and longitude measures are accurate within several meters. Elevation measured by GPS mathematics is not as accurate and can fluctuate as much as 150 meters. GPS tracking devices that are made with barometric altimeters are much more accurate for measuring elevation.

Artificial Intelligence in Robotics

ROBOTICS
A robot is a mechanical or virtual agent, usually an electro-mechanical machine that is guided by a computer program or electronic circuitry. Robots can be autonomous or semi-autonomous and range from humanoids such as Honda's Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility(ASIMO) and Tosy's TOSY Ping Pong Playing Robot (TOPIO) to industrial robots, collectively programmed 'swarm' robots, and even microscopic nano robots. By mimicking a lifelike appearance or automating movements, a robot may convey a sense of intelligence or thought of its own.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) in movies

10. Artificial Intelligence: A. I. (2001)

A.I. Artificial Intelligence, also known as A.I., is a 2001 American science fiction drama film written, directed, and produced by Steven Spielberg, and based on Brian Aldiss's short story "Super-Toys Last All Summer Long". Set sometime in the future, A.I. tells the story of David, a childlikeandroid uniquely programmed with the ability to love. Development of A.I. originally began with director Stanley Kubrick in the early 1970s. Kubrick hired a series of writers up until the mid-1990s, including Brian Aldiss, Bob Shaw, Ian Watson, and Sara Maitland. The film languished in development hell for years, partly because Kubrick felt computer-generated imagery was not advanced enough to create the David character, whom he believed no child actor would believably portray. In 1995, Kubrick handed A.I. to Spielberg, but the film did not gain momentum until Kubrick's death in 1999. Spielberg remained close to Watson's film treatment for the screenplay. The film was greeted with generally favorable reviews from critics and grossed approximately $235 million. A small credit appears after the end credits, which reads "For Stanley Kubrick."

Artificial Intelligence in helping us doing our household chores...

Domestic robots
Until recently, the idea of robots appearing in peoples' homes was considered science fiction, or something which only the very rich had access to. However, the consumer robotics market is booming at the moment. Thanks to falling costs, they are beginning to enter mainstream society. Sales of professional and personal service robots are expected to reach 11.5 million in 2011, more than double the number in 2008.*

Artificial Intelligence in Smartphones : SIRI and Air Call Accept

The growth of Smartphones has been in constant rapidity ever since the release of iPhone about 5 years ago. It started with the ability to replace the need of a PC for internet usage and is now able to replace even those nifty gaming PCs and consoles for the sake of entertainment. In fact, it does not only entertains the users with extreme gaming experience but also with those cool apps, which are perhaps the best way to kill the time and boredom.

History of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

1943-1956

  • the birth of artificial intelligence
  •  handful of scientists from a variety of fields (mathematics, psychology, engineering, economics and political science) began to discuss the possibility of creating an artificial brain
  • The field of artificial intelligence research was founded as an academic discipline in 1956.

What is Artificial Intelligence?

\

Probably everybody has heard of Artificial Intelligence  but relatively few people have a really good idea of what the term really means. For most people, AI is associated with artifacts like the Hal 9000 Computer in the movie 2001: A Space odyssey. Such images are the product of Hollywood, rather than the kind of thing which actually happens in the research labs of the world today. My purpose here is to introduce to all of you out there a little bit about Artificial Inteligence or commonly known as AI.
